Step into History on the Camino’s iconic route. Start your day by leaving behind the Medieval charm of Ponte de Lima, crossing its iconic 22 Arched Bridge, which is a true symbol of timeless beauty. As you step onto the Caminho, the trail leads you North, through rolling golden fields, tranquil Forests and picturesque Villages giving you a genuine taste of rural Portugal at its finest. The highlight of the day is the climb up Serra da Labruja to Alto da Portela, the highest point of this stage. While the ascent may be challenging, every step is rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views, peaceful Mountain landscapes and the chance to pass by historical landmarks such as the Cruz dos Franceses, a testament to the bravery of locals during Napoleon’s 1809 Invasion. To get there, you will continue along the Portuguese Camino, journeying North through typical Villages where the Catholic Faith is deeply ingrained, reflected in the many Churches and Chapels along the way. One such site, near Gondomil, is the Ancient Chapel of Senhora da Guia, an iconic symbol of the Camino de Santiago. Pause here to reflect at this historic site, honouring 'Nosso Senhor dos Caminhos' (Our Lord of the Paths), a testament to the spiritual essence of the journey. Although the day begins with a brief ascent, this stage is mostly a gentle descent, leading you through serene Forests and peaceful fields on a mix of road and dirt tracks. Leaving Tui behind, the trail opens up into the tranquil beauty of Galicia, where serene farmland, lush Forests and picturesque Villages unfold before you. Although your journey follows the traditional Camino de Santiago route, a specially selected section has been chosen to enhance your experience. This alternative path preserves the Camino’s spirit and tranquility, offering a more peaceful and scenic route, while still embracing the rich history and natural beauty of the journey. Discover paths of beauty and heritage! Today’s hike takes you to Caldas dos Reis, a Historic City famous for its Thermal Baths. Begin your day crossing the iconic Burgo Bridge, a Medieval Bridge that crosses the Lérez River, a Medieval marvel spanning the Lérez River and step into the serene Marismas de Alba Natural Park. This vibrant wetland ecosystem is a haven for wildlife featuring Acacias, Orchids, White Herons, Dragonflies and more. An idyllic place to start your day. From here the trail leads to Pontecabras, where the enchanting Church and Rectory of Santa María de Alba stand as a testament to centuries of devotion. Continuing to Valbón, you will encounter impressive stone houses and three striking stone crosses, each steeped in meaning, including one depicting Santiago the Pilgrim gazing toward Compostela. The path meanders through lush rural fields and charming Villages along the gentle flow of the Lamas River. Near Tivo, take a moment to appreciate the Church of Santa Maria, a serene stop before you cross the Bridge into Caldas de Reis. Follow the tranquil Umia River along the picturesque Camino de Los Muiños, lined with old Watermills, as you make your way to your Hotel. As you head back into Caldas dos Reis, you will have the chance to briefly explore the Town, strolling along Calle Real and crossing the historic Roman era Stone Bridge, a relic of the past before continuing your adventure Northward. This stage takes you through picturesque landscapes, where the tranquil rhythm of the Camino unfolds. The path leads you through serene climbs, small Villages and unmistakable signs of Faith. As you venture into the Valga Region, the landscape transforms into lush woods and Forests, where the gentle flow of the Valga River and Ancient Mills create an idyllic setting. The sounds of wildlife and rustling leaves provide a calming soundtrack to your journey, immersing you fully in nature’s embrace. Starting from Padrón, you will walk through the serene beauty of the Sar Valley, passing through picturesque Villages like Pousa, Souto, Rueiro, Cambelas and Anteportas, each one offering a glimpse into the authentic charm of rural Galicia. As you journey onward, you will encounter the Baroque Sanctuary of A Escravitude with its stunning panoramic views of the Padrón Valleys and the Amaía lands, truly a moment to savour. The anticipation builds as you approach O Milladoiro, where the first sight of the majestic Cathedral of Santiago awaits, marking a historic moment for all Pilgrims. From there, you will follow the peaceful Sar River, cross the Ponte Vella and make your way into the lively heart of Santiago. Here, you will stand before the awe inspiring Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, your ultimate destination, where your remarkable Camino journey concludes.
