Upon arrival at Athens Airport, you will be welcomed by an assistant and transferred to your hotel for an overnight stay.
After breakfast, today is dedicated to exploring the City of Athens. We will begin with a panoramic tour of the most important monuments and landmarks of the city, including the Panathinaikos Stadium, the Zappeion, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Hadrian's Arch, Syntagma Square, the Parliament, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Schliemann's House, the Academy, the University, the National Library, and the Old Parliament. Afterwards, we will head for a guided visit to the Acropolis, which includes the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Parthenon and the Erechtheion. Later, we will continue with a guided visit to the Acropolis Museum, voted one of the best museums in the world. After breakfast at the hotel, we will depart for the Peloponnese. Our first stop will be to visit the impressive Corinth Canal before continuing to Epidaurus to see its Theatre, famous for its acoustics. Afterwards, we will continue to Nafplion for a shortstop before visiting Mycenae, 'rich in gold,' as Homer mentions, to see the Cyclopean Walls and the Tomb of Agamemnon with the famous Lion's Gate. In the afternoon, we will cross the mountains of the Peloponnese to arrive in Olympia for dinner and our overnight stay. Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Built on the Banks of the River Alfeios, Olympia is beautiful, green, and placid. Today, enjoy a tour through the remains of the Ancient Olympia Complex (home of the original Olympic Games), seeing the Temple of Zeus, the Palaestra and Phidias's Workshop. We will continue to the local Museum, one of the richest in Greece, to see its impressive Statue of Hermes of Praxiteles. In the afternoon, we will start heading north, driving around Patras, over the impressive Rio-Antirrio Bridge, through Nafpaktos and Itea, to Delphi for dinner and our overnight stay. Delphi used to be the most sacred spot in the world and a pilgrimage centre for many Centuries in antiquity. Today, admire the Sanctuary of Apollo and walk the Sacred Way, as well as visit the Temple of Apollo, which was the home of Pythia (the Oracle). Afterwards, we will continue to the local Museum with the famous Bronze Statue of the Charioteer. In the afternoon, we will cross the mountains of central Greece, arriving in Kalambaka for dinner and our overnight stay. Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
This morning after breakfast, we will visit Meteora. These amazing rock formations are like towers of sandstone and stand ageless, providing a sacred retreat for monks over the centuries. Several monasteries are hidden on top of Meteora with breathtaking views over the plain. Meteora is considered among the most beautiful areas of mainland Greece and belongs to UNESCO's List of World Heritage Monuments. After our visit, we will take the road back to Athens. On the way, we will make a short stop at Thermopylae to admire the Statue of Leonidas, King of Sparta. Overnight stay in Athens. Meals: Breakfast
