Travelling through Serbia can be a fascinating experience.  This small country offers a lot of history and culture from the colourful capital Belgrade and Stari Grad, the old city, home to 19th-century mansions to northern plateaus and mountains with ski resorts to the south.  Many of Serbia's medieval churches and monasteries are part of the UNESCO World Heritage list and if you want to explore the nightlife you'll find an energy to its bars, cafés and clubs, that produces an adrenaline-charged atmosphere relatively unmatched anywhere else in the Balkans.

Belgrade sits at a strategic point on the junction of the Danube and Sava rivers and throughout history has been captured as many as sixty times by Celts, Romans, Huns, Avars and more, as through the twentieth century, the city suffered heavy shelling during World War II and in 1999 withstood 78 days of NATO airstrikes.  All things considered, Belgrade is today a high-energy, contemporary and picturesque city where grand nineteenth-century buildings and delicate Art Nouveau facades stand alongside architecture from the city’s time under the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian empires.  Must see attractions and places include the Kalemegdan Fortress, the Old City - located just outside the park boundary, Belgrade’s central square Trg Republike, and the old bohemian quarter of Skadarlija.
