It was opened a long time ago in 1901 and is considered to be the first one in Moscow until now. Kolomenskoye used to be a Tsar residence and now it is a museum and a park open to public. The Church of Ascension is a UNESCO Site. The estate itself is situated on the bank of Moskva River and you will enjoy a magnificent view from the hill on the city of the other bank.
One of the sites in Kolomenskoye is a Peter the Great’s House. It was built in 1702 on Markov Island at the mouth of the Northern Dvina, near to the White Sea.
In this house the Emperor lived during two months, watching the construction of the Novodvinsk Fortress. The interior of the house is similar to that one used during the age of Peter the Great. This is the only one memorial museum in Moscow dedicated to the Emperor Peter.
The pearl of the estate is the reconstructed Wooden Palace of Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich. The wooden palace of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich with 270 rooms decorated with paintings and carvings was built in 1667 without using any nails or hooks. It consisted of 26 buildings connected with each other by passages and halls. The original Palace did not survive but the beautiful replica has been recently constructed in the vicinity. On the rich and picturesque grounds of Kolomenskoye visitors may find traces from different periods of Russian history.
