The locals have been known to say that in Santorini there is more wine than water. This is probably true. Santorini produces more wine than any other Cyclades island.
The volcanic soil, daytime temperatures, and humidity at night are very favorable to at least 36 varieties of grapes, especially the production of white wine.
Farmers will twist the vines into a basketlike shape, where the grapes will grow, protected from the wind. So on any trip to this gorgeous island make sure you visit one of the wineries. After all, its not all a trip here is not all about the stunning sunsets.
