Being in travel was practically inevitable for Amber, who was heavily influenced by world travellers growing up.
“We had international students staying with our family ever since I was young,” explains Amber. “Some were from Asia, Europe, all over really. They’d tell us about their home countries and their lives; listening to their stories made me passionate about travel.”
Following such a global start, Amber went on to complete her Certificate III in Travel and Tourism in New Zealand before representing the country’s tourism industry at an Information Centre in Auckland. Her next step was six years as an international travel consultant in Tauranga before making the move to Australia, and Europe Holidays, in 2018.
The influence of all those students has also seen Amber travel to quite a few places, including several trips to America, Hawaii, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, Samoa, Fiji, Zimbabwe and Zambia.
One of her favourite trips was to Italy, in part to see one of her family’s former boarders.
“I’d kept in touch with my ‘Italian sister’ from Turin, so I spent five nights with her, as well as exploring Florence, Rome, Siena, Cinque Terre and Venice over three weeks.”
The most memorable moment of her trip was watching the warm up for the infamous Palio di Siena, the region’s medieval-style horse race that divides the city and is its most important event.
“I loved the passion and enthusiasm the town showed for the race. The whole place comes together, it had such an incredible energy. Siena stands out in history for its horse racing.”
Amber was also especially fond of Italy’s gelato – ‘which is everywhere!’
European destinations on Amber’s ‘must see’ list include Croatia, for its scenery and amazing history, Italy and Greece. She also has a self-professed soft spot for Spain and Portugal as destinations that offer something different. “The architecture, the scenery and the history behind the places are what make them special.”
